West Lindsey based business entrepreneur David Kitchen decided to enlist the help of Innovation Lincolnshire before branching out into a new market.
David, who started up printing, graphic design and retail business PenzNprint in Market Rasen in 2006, is expanding his business to incorporate on-demand book publishing and photo book production.
David explained: "On-demand book publishing is an emerging market in the UK and the digital printing technology which enables the printing of one-off books is relatively new. We have identified this as a massive area for growth for our business."
The Big Tree Group will predominantly be an online business which will not only print books on demand but also provide ISBN numbers, allowing authors to sell their works through bookshops, stationers and via the Big Tree Group web site.
The other side of the online book printing business is the photo books which are perfect for commemorating and sharing a special occasion such as a holiday, wedding or the birth of a baby.
According to David, the Innovation Manager working with him has been instrumental in the development of the new business.
"Our advisor performed a detailed analysis on the business, focusing on putting together a comprehensive business development and marketing strategy," said David. "He assisted us in identifying our target customer base, how and where we find new customers and how to create a customer database before we've actually started trading. We also went though a detailed business opportunity analysis process which assessed the commercial viability of the products.
"Without the specialist advice provided we would have struggled to get as far as we have in the time that we have. Innovation Lincolnshire has been pivotal in creating a targeted marketing campaign and has given us the confidence and the know-how to take our products to market."
